Just like how beads elevate adults’ braided hairstyles as we saw in the previous post, they can also elevate kids’ hairstyles and make them super cute and fun.
Beads can take your child’s hair from blah to wow in a matter of minutes, and the fun part is that they can always be reused, so you don’t have to worry about repurchasing new beads and bows every time.
Braided hairstyles also make the process of getting ready for school and other activities in the morning super seamless.
All you have to worry about as a parent is the regular maintenance of the braided hairstyles and nothing more.
Whether your child is getting natural hair braids, Fulani braids, box braids, knotless braids, stitch braids, braided ponytails, beads and bows are a sure way to take the hairstyles a notch higher.

Do’s and Don’ts of getting braided hairstyles with beads
1. Do use your child’s natural hair for braiding if they are tender-headed. This prevents tussling with the hair stylist and avoids sitting for long hours at the salon.
2. Do wash your child’s hair with shampoo and conditioner, and deep condition it if necessary.
3. Do stretch your child’s hair and apply heat protectant while doing so to prevent heat damage.
4. Do buy the required braiding hair, if using any in advance.
5.Do inform your stylist to avoid braiding your child’s hair too tightly to avoid hair and scalp damage.
6. Do not pick the style for your child. Show them a few pictures for inspiration and let them choose something that they love.
7.Do not Purchase the beads and bows from your stylist as they usually tend to be overpriced; But you can do so if that’s your personal preference.
8.All the beads, bows and braiding hair can be found at your local beauty supply store, Amazon and your stylist’s salon.
Ps. If there’s one product that I would highly recommend you use on your kid’s hair immediately after washing and before braiding, it has to be Blue Magic Conditioners. It results in smooth, soft and easily manageable hair so please use it after washing your child’s hair. They are an absolute game changer.
My mom used it on me and my siblings every time before getting our hair done, and I still use it now in my adult life before getting my hair braided and it works like a charm.
They come in a number of variants; Mango and Lime, Vitamin E, bergamot and the original Indian hemp hair and scalp conditioner and more.
The 4 variants down below work wonders but choose the one that tickles your fancy and they can all be found at your local beauty supply store.
The variants are as seen below.

Braided hair with beads and bows maintenance
1. Regularly oil and moisturize your child’s scalp. A quick, cheap and effective moisturizer is a mix of water and conditioner. This should be done at least 3 times a week.
2. Wrap their hair in a silk scarf or bonnet when going to sleep, having a silk pillowcase is an added bonus at it prevents wear and tear.
3. Depending on the braided hairstyle you chose, avoid keeping the braids in for too long.. recommended life of braids is 4 to 5 weeks max depending on the chosen hairstyle.
4. Keep the beads and bows after unbraiding kid’s hair as they could be used again to rock another hairstyle.
5. Clean their scalp regularly to prevent itching.
