Did you know that tattoos date back thousands of years ago and have no exact place of origin?
But tattoos have been used throughout many civilizations, including the Victorian Era, when English society lads would get tiny hidden tattoos as it was frowned upon to have them visible in public.
They were also used to symbolize many things such as fertility and sexuality, and used in Japan to mark prisoners so that they could be identified when they passed on (so sad right?).
With this incredibly broad history of tattoos, remember that they are an expression of who you are, what you love and the things that you believe in.
And please don’t go around tattooing faces of your spouses, random celebrities or other mystical figures on your face, because I am 100000% sure that you are going to regret it down the line, but it’s a free world if you choose to and thank Technology for the availability of laser tattoo removal.
Do’s and Don’ts of tattoos
1. Do eat before your tattoo.
2. Do understand your pain tolerance level and choose you tattoo based on that.
3. Do shave the specified area that you’re getting tattooed.
4. Communicate with your tattoo artist to make sure you get what you want, as the tattoo will be a part of you for life.
5. Do make sure that you thoroughly do your research and get tattooed by someone who is a professional. Avoid dingy places and artists as you could get an absolutely debilitating infection.
6. Do gently wash tattoo with warm water and use recommended tattoo specific soap.
7. Do gently pat your tattoo dry with a paper towel after washing.
8. Do apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare 2 to 3 times daily or as recommended by your artist.
9. Do slowly and gently peel off the second skin.
10. Don’t itch or scratch your tattoo. The itch is worse than the pain of getting your tattoo LOL but please don’t be tempted to scratch.
11. Don’t swim or submerge your tattoo immediately after getting it.
12. Don’t rub tattoo aggressively with a towel, pat gently with paper towel instead.
13. Don’t use non-tattoo specified products.
14. Don’t overload your tattoo with aftercare products, just apply a thin layer instead.
15. Don’t drink alcohol for at least 2 days after your session.
Ps. Some tattoo artists may recommend the use of Vaseline for the aftercare which may work in some instances but Vaseline doesn’t allow the skin to breathe as it clogs your skin barrier and can sometimes cause an infection. Vaseline is perfect for the the tattoo glide but not aftercare.
You could use Aquaphor, raw shea butter or cocoa butter instead of Vaseline, just be sure to apply thin layers.
With no further rambling, todays blog post features over 50 small, intimate and stunning tattoos that are definitely pieces of art and that should inspire you on your next ink. Choose the right symbols and the right locations that work for you and you’ll be happy for years to come.
